Qatar’s high jump icon Mutaz Essa Barshim claimed his first gold at the international stage since returning from injury yesterday as he cleared 2.23m at the 1st Asian Jumps Championships in Chongqing, China.
A few days ago, Barshim had shared gold with Oman’s Fatih Abdulghafour Beit Jaaboub at the 4th GCC Games – Doha 2026 after both athletes cleared 2.16m, recreating the spirit of sportsmanship just like at the Tokyo Olympics when Barshim had famously shared Olympic gold with Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi.
