Epic inspiration

There are some stories that refuse to fade, no matter how many centuries pass. Greek mythology is one of them, and this week we’re taking a look at some of the best films inspired by these timeless tales.

Leading the charge is Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” which has already been hailed by critics as “a filmmaking feast.” With its all-star cast the film is introducing one of history’s greatest adventures to a whole new generation and proving that these ancient stories still have the power to captivate modern audiences.

We’re also revisiting a selection of earlier films that drew inspiration from Greek mythology, including “Troy,” with Brad Pitt playing Achilles, and “Hercules,” a colourful, light-hearted take on one of mythology’s most famous heroes. While very different in tone, both have earned their place as memorable interpretations of the ancient legends.

In other news this week turn to our Health pages to read about new research suggesting that melatonin may do more than help you get a good night’s sleep. While best known as a treatment for insomnia and jet lag, scientists now believe it could also offer modest relief for people living with chronic muscle and joint pain.
