UAE leaders vow to safeguard the nation on Union Pledge Day

The UAE marked Union Pledge Day on  Saturday, commemorating the historic signing of the Declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution by the Founding Fathers in 1971, marking the beginning of a 55-year journey of development, progress and global leadership.

 Union Pledge Day, approved by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, commemorates the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the Founding Rulers, whose commitment to unity laid the foundations of a nation built on ambition and progress.

 Marking the Day Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed  on his X platform wrote “Union Pledge Day, we renew our commitment to the principles of unity established by the late Sheikh Zayed and his brothers the Rulers. The signing of the declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution on 18 July 1971 marked a defining moment in our nation’s history.”

“As we continue to build on the achievements of the UAE, we remain guided by the values that shaped its foundation, ensuring they continue to inspire future generations,” Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed concluded.

 His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai tweeted on X platform : On Union Pledge Day, we remember the day our Founding Fathers united around the vision of one nation and laid the foundations of our Union and its Constitution.”

“Today, we renew our pledge to safeguard our Union, strengthen its foundations, protect its achievements, and build a brighter future for generations to come,” Dubai Ruler wrote on X.

 His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, said that Union Pledge Day is a national occasion and a defining milestone in the UAE’s history, on which the nation’s people recall the historic decision that laid the foundation for the establishment of the UAE and reflected the vision of the Founding Leaders and their steadfast determination to build a nation founded on unity and cohesion.

 In a statement marking Union Pledge Day, Sheikh Humaid said that on 18th July 1971, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his brothers, the Rulers, signed the declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution and announced the name of the United Arab Emirates, heralding the establishment of a nation united by a shared destiny.

 His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, affirmed that Union Pledge Day is a timeless national occasion in the history of the United Arab Emirates, on which the nation proudly recalls the wise vision and sincere efforts of the founding fathers, who realised the dream of the Union, laid the foundation for its blessed journey, and established the pillars of a strong and cohesive state built on the values of unity, solidarity, cooperation, security and stability.

Sheikh Saud said that 18th July will remain a defining milestone in the UAE’s journey, on which the nation renews its commitment to continuing the path of development established by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his fellow founding rulers, drawing inspiration from the values and enduring principles of the Union while moving confidently and resolutely towards a future of greater prosperity and leadership under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Saud stressed that the Union Pledge Day was not merely a historic document, but a strategic vision that looked to the future and established a unique model of unity, development and achievement, enabling the UAE to become a global model for progress, innovation and sustainable development.

Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, affirmed that Union Pledge Day is a national occasion to reflect on the historic efforts and steadfast determination that paved the way for the establishment of the United Arab Emirates.

Sheikh Khaled underscored that 18th July 1971, the day the declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution were signed, marks a defining moment in the nation’s history, laying the foundations for a country united by the shared resolve of its leadership and people to build the Union with a forward-looking vision.

  Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, said: On Union Pledge Day, which falls on July 18 of each year, we remember the pledge and promise which brought together the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, and their brothers the founding fathers, to build one nation that gathers everyone under its banner.

He added on “X” platform: “From that pledge, a journey began that proved the Union is the source of our strength, resilience, and prosperity, and that pledge was the starting point toward a nation that knows no impossible. Today, we continue to build on that legacy, inspired by the vision and determination of the founding fathers, to consolidate our country’s achievements and create a more prosperous future for our coming generations.”
