Fraudsters dupe a man of Dhs15,566 in a fake rental deal in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court ordered suspects to return a man Dhs15,566 and pay him a compensation of Dhs15,000 after they defrauded him.

The victim allegedly filed a lawsuit against the suspects requesting that they be jointly ordered to return him Dhs15,566, besides Dhs35,000, in compensation, as well as paying all fees and expenses of the lawsuit.

The complainant stated that he communicated with one of the suspects via WhatsApp after they contacted him, claiming they were real estate brokers, offering an apartment for rent.

The plaintiff added that after agreeing to rent the apartment, they asked him to transfer Dhs3,000 as insurance to the bank account of one of them, then they asked to transfer Dhs9,666, as a first installment of the rent to the bank account of the property owner’s fiancée.

He added that they later asked him to transfer Dhs2,900, as a brokerage commission to the bank account of one of them, bringing the total he transferred to Dhs15,566, however they did not adhere to the agreement concluded to rent him the apartment.

He consequently filed a criminal case in which a judgment was issued convicting them after they caused moral and material damages to the plaintiff.

The court explained after reviewing the documents that it was proved that the plaintiff transferred Dhs15,566 to the appellees, and therefore they were ordered to return the amount.

The court also clarified that the appellees caused the complainant material and moral damages and therefore ordered them to pay Dhs15,000 as comprehensive compensation for damages incurred.
