The UAE has allocated US$10 million through the UAE Aid Agency as part of its urgent humanitarian response to support communities affected by devastating floods and landslides in Nepal, which have claimed dozens of lives, left others injured or missing and caused widespread damage to homes, infrastructure and essential services.
The assistance comes under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and reflects the UAE’s commitment to supporting countries facing major humanitarian crises and natural disasters.
Dr Tareq Ahmed Al Amiri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, highlighted the UAE’s role in leading and supporting urgent humanitarian responses around the world. He said the country’s humanitarian efforts are driven by its commitment to human solidarity, international cooperation and the need to assist communities during times of crisis.
Al Amiri stressed the importance of strengthening collective international humanitarian efforts to ensure timely and effective assistance reaches people affected by natural disasters and other emergencies. He noted that the scale of the devastation in Nepal requires coordinated action among humanitarian agencies, local authorities and international partners.
Teams from the UAE Aid Agency are working closely with relevant authorities in Nepal and international humanitarian organisations to assess urgent needs and coordinate the delivery of relief assistance. The response is focused on ensuring that aid reaches all affected communities, including women, men and children, while addressing immediate humanitarian requirements.
The UAE’s contribution is expected to support emergency relief operations and provide essential assistance to people whose lives and livelihoods have been disrupted by the floods and landslides, reinforcing the UAE’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian solidarity and disaster relief worldwide.
