Man ordered to pay woman Dhs50,000 for insulting her in public

Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court ordered a man to pay Dhs50,000 as compensation to a woman for the psychological harm she suffered as a result of him intercepting her vehicle, endangering her life, and publicly insulting her in front of her sister, her niece and passersby.

In detail, a woman filed a lawsuit against a man, requesting that he be ordered to pay her Dhs70,000 as compensation for the moral and social damages she suffered as a result of him intercepting her vehicle, endangering her life, and publicly insulting her. She added that he had been convicted by a criminal judgment, and the court had punished him for the first crime by placing him in community service for one month and fining him Dhs10,000, and suspending his driving licence for 3 months. He was also fined Dhs5,000 for the second crime.

The Court of Appeal amended the judgment by limiting the punishment to community service for the first charge and suspending the defendant’s driving licence for one month.

The court clarified that the defendant’s error was proved by the issued judgment and had caused moral damages to the plaintiff, and therefore the court deemed Dhs50,000 to be sufficient compensation for all the damages she incurred.
