In design, some of the most compelling ideas begin not with invention, but with observation. That premise underpins the latest release from Busar & Co, whose Paper Clip Collection draws from one of the most familiar objects in daily life and reconsiders it within a fine jewelry context.
The result is a body of work defined by clarity, structure, and a controlled approach to form—qualities that have increasingly shaped the brand’s direction.
Rather than abstracting the reference beyond recognition, the collection retains the essential silhouette of the paper clip—clean, continuous, and immediately identifiable. Its transformation lies not in alteration, but in context. What was once purely functional is repositioned as something deliberate.
The paper clip itself is rarely given attention. It appears in moments that often carry significance—binding together documents, agreements, and records associated with decision-making. Temporary in use, it nonetheless exists at points of consequence.
In Busar & Co’s interpretation, that role is extended. The form is preserved and translated into a more permanent medium, shifting its meaning from utility to something more enduring—suggesting ideas of connection, continuity, and the act of holding elements together.
At the centre of the collection is creative director Yusuf Busari, whose work has gained recognition for its measured and disciplined approach to design. His pieces frequently draw from recognisable references, refined with an emphasis on proportion and balance rather than embellishment.
“There’s a certain clarity in keeping a form intact,” Busari says. “It’s about interpretation, not transformation.”
Each piece follows this principle. Lines remain uninterrupted, proportions are carefully controlled, and materials—18-karat gold paired with natural diamonds—are applied with restraint. The result is a balance between familiarity and precision, where the original form remains legible while its presence is elevated.
Busari’s perspective is shaped in part by his background, where everyday objects are approached with a heightened awareness of function and value. That sensitivity continues to inform the brand’s direction, contributing to a design language that prioritises intention over excess.
As Busar & Co expands into international markets, including Dubai, the company operates with a more defined internal structure. Supporting this development is operations manager Olayinka Osadare, who oversees coordination across design, production, and delivery as the brand scales.
In a category often driven by ornamentation, the collection distinguishes itself through its restraint, reflecting a broader movement toward clarity within contemporary jewelry design.
The Paper Clip Collection, scheduled for release on May 1, marks a continuation of this approach—an exploration of how familiar forms can be preserved, refined, and repositioned within a modern luxury context.
