His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has instructed the authorities concerned to build two pedestrian bridges on Al Haray Road in a step aimed at enhancing traffic safety and protecting pedestrians on one of the key roads that witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day, especially trucks and heavy-duty vehicles.
The project is also aimed at providing safe and sustainable solutions for residents to cross between the two sides of the road.
SRTA is continuing to implement Sheikh Sultan’s directives regarding the development of the road network and infrastructure across the emirate by carrying out high-quality projects that enhance road efficiency and ensure the highest safety and security standards, keeping pace with Sharjah’s urban growth and population expansion and improving the quality of life for its residents and visitors.
SRTA is also committed to implementing its projects according to well-considered plans that take into account the needs of road users and support smooth traffic flow in vital areas.
During a conversation with the Direct Line programme, Eng. Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of SRTA, affirmed that the first bridge would connect Ali Bin Abi Talib Mosque to the shopping mall in the opposite side, while the second bridge would be built near Victoria School.
He pointed out that the two projects would contribute to providing safe pedestrian crossings and connecting residential areas directly and safely with commercial and service areas, thus meeting the growing demand from residents for safe crossings in the area.
Al Harai Road is one of the emirate’s significant highways and is constantly used by trucks, which makes it difficult to apply traditional traffic calming measures to it, whether because of their potential impact on the asphalt structure of the road or because of the risks they may pose to traffic flow and the safety of road users, he said.
Al Othmani indicated that SRTA would immediately begin the design work for the two bridges, noting that the two projects would contribute to enhancing traffic safety levels on the road, reducing the risks of pedestrian crossings, supporting the smooth flow of traffic and achieving a safe connection between the various residential, commercial and service facilities surrounding Al Haray Road.
