UAE athletes deliver stellar performances as medal tally …

The UAE athletes continued their strong performance at the 4th GCC Games – Doha 2026, held from May 11 to 22, increasing their medal tally to 33, including six gold, nine silver, and 18 bronze medals.

This remarkable achievement underscores the strength of the UAE’s sporting presence and the breadth of their successes across a wide range of disciplines.

Emirati athletes continued to shine in the previous day’s competitions, delivering standout performances that captured the attention of fans and competitors alike.

A highlight came from the national billiards team, where Mahmoud Sharif clinched gold in the men’s 9-ball singles event, further cementing the UAE’s dominance in billiards at the GCC Games and adding another proud chapter to the nation’s growing legacy in regional sports.”

The UAE athletics team also secured six new medals. The men’s 4x100m relay team won silver with a time of 47.38 seconds, while the women’s relay team claimed bronze in 54.39 seconds.

In the women’s pole vault, rising athlete Shahad Rashid Mubarak won silver after setting a new UAE record of 3.25 metres, while Alyazia Tarek took bronze with a clearance of 2.80 metres.

Major General Dr Mohammed Abdullah Al Murr, President of the UAE Athletics Federation, affirmed that young athlete Shahad Rashid Mubarak represents a promising future champion in pole vault, noting that her achievements at an early age reflect the significant development of UAE athletics, particularly in women’s sport.

He extended special thanks to Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairperson of Sharjah Family and Community Council, in recognition of her continued support for women’s sport and her patronage of Emirati talent.

He said: “We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi for her continued support for women’s sport and her commitment to empowering Emirati female athletes. This support is reflected today in developing champions capable of competing and achieving success.”

He added: “UAE fans can look forward to a future champion. Shahad Rashid is not only a GCC Games medallist; she is an exceptional talent who has broken the UAE records in the girls’, women’s U20 and senior women’s pole vault categories at the GCC Games. This sends a clear message that the future of this event in the UAE holds great ambition and promise.”

Nasser Al Kathiri added bronze in the javelin throw, while Obaid Al Nuaimi won bronze in the 10km race walk, as the UAE athletics team continued their strong presence on GCC podiums.

In equestrian, rider Abdullah Humaid Al Muhairi delivered gold for the UAE in the individual show jumping competition following an impressive performance.

The UAE fencing team concluded their participation with three team medals, winning gold in the women’s foil team event and silver in both the women’s epee team and men’s epee team events, further underlining the remarkable progress of UAE fencing at the Games.

In shooting, Fatima Al Suwaidi won silver in the women’s rifle event, before joining Salem Al Yamahi to add bronze in the 10m air rifle mixed team event.

On the sidelines of the Games, Rashid Abdulrahman Al Ali, Acting Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of the UAE in Qatar, received the UAE Olympic Committee delegation participating in the GCC Games.

The delegation included Major General Dr Mohammed Al Murr Al Naqbi and Ibrahim Al Asam Al Zaabi, members of the Board of Directors of the UAE Olympic Committee, along with Anas Al Otaiba, President of the UAE Boxing Federation; Mohammed Hassan Al Suwaidi, Vice President of the UAE Handball Federation; His Excellency Mohammad Abdulnasser Al Khayat, Vice Chairman of the UAE Athletics Federation; Mohammed Abdullah Bu Khater, Vice President of the UAE Boxing Federation; Hassan Al Zarouni, Secretary General of the UAE Table Tennis Association; and several representatives of the administrative delegation.
