Fujairah Martial Arts Club has announced the signing of a professional contract with UAE national team judo athlete Makhmadbek Makhmadbekov, in a pioneering step that marks a first-of-its-kind initiative at the club level.

The move reinforces the pathway toward professional sports and supporting the nation’s Olympic ambitions.

Makhmadbekov is among the world’s top judo athletes, currently ranked No. 1 globally in the 73 kg category, reflecting the high technical value of this signing and its significance in strengthening the UAE’s international sporting presence.

This move aligns with the club’s strategy and the UAE national sports strategy, which focuses on elite athlete development, enhancing international competitiveness, and building a sustainable professional sports ecosystem capable of producing Olympic champions.

The contract runs until the end of 2028, in line with the Olympic preparation cycle, as the club aims to provide a fully integrated professional environment, including technical support, advanced training programs, and international participation opportunities in accordance with global best practices.

Nader Abu Shawish, Director of Fujairah Martial Arts Club, emphasized that this step represents a strategic transformation in the club’s operating model, noting that entering the professional sports era is a key pillar in enhancing athletic performance and ensuring sustainable achievements.

He stated that the athlete will join the club’s “Elite Programme,” which includes top-tier athletes with high potential and is designed to prepare them through advanced systems aimed at reaching the highest international levels, particularly the Olympic Games.

He added that the club operates under a clear strategy focused on talent identification and development, while providing a comprehensive professional environment that aligns with the UAE’s vision of investing in sports as a strategic sector.

Abu Shawish also praised the UAE Judo Federation, highlighting its vital role as a strategic partner through its advanced technical plans and development programs that contribute to preparing athletes according to the highest international standards.

He concluded that this step marks the beginning of a new phase for the club, aimed at embedding a culture of professionalism, strengthening Fujairah’s position as a regional hub for champion development, and supporting the journey toward Olympic qualification and international success.
