Big Gossey grabs 12th win as Ahmed hails Jebel Ali, Curra…

Big Gossey, owned by the Allegro Syndicate, delivered a commanding performance to capture the Jebel Ali Racecourse and Dash Stakes on Sunday, one of the feature contests of the renowned Irish Derby Festival at The Curragh Racecourse in Ireland.

Trained by Charles O’Brien and ridden by Billy Lee, the accomplished sprinter showcased his class over the 1,200-metre Listed contest, producing a powerful finish to secure victory in one of Ireland’s leading sprint races.

Sent off as the 5-2 favourite, Big Gossey appeared to have an uphill battle entering the final furlong, with victory looking increasingly unlikely.

However, the talented sprinter produced a remarkable late burst, accelerating powerfully over the closing 150 yards to overhaul his rivals and defeat Tango Flare by three-quarters of a length in a thrilling finish and secured his 12th victory at The Curragh.

JARC-sponsored action also featured the Jebel Ali Racecourse and Stables Anglesey Stakes, where Giselle De Aguiar’s Ballinea Star secured Group 3 success with a gutsy display.

The races were staged under the directives and support of Sheikh Ahmed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, founder of Jebel Ali Racecourse, as part of the racecourse’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its international presence and promoting excellence in global horse racing.

Carrying a total prize fund of €100,000, the Jebel Ali Racecourse and Dash Stakes attracted a highly competitive field of quality sprinters, further enhancing its reputation as a significant fixture on the Irish racing calendar.

The sponsorship reflects Jebel Ali Racecourse’s growing international partnerships with some of the world’s most prestigious racing venues, reinforcing the UAE’s contribution to the development of the sport and highlighting its expanding influence within the global racing community.

Mohamed Al Ahmed, General Manager of Jebel Ali Racecourse, presented the trophy to the winners.

He said that the racecourse’s strategic partnerships with some of the world’s most prestigious racing venues are a testament to the vision of Sheikh Ahmed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to elevate Jebel Ali Racecourse’s international profile and strengthen its position as a leading organiser and sponsor of world-class horse racing.

Ahmed also hailed the Jebel Ali Racecourse High committee for their continues support.

He noted that these collaborations play a vital role in promoting the UAE’s distinguished heritage in equestrian sport while fostering stronger ties with the global racing community. By aligning with renowned international racecourses, Jebel Ali Racecourse continues to showcase the excellence of UAE racing on the world stage and create new opportunities for international cooperation and sporting exchange.

Ahmed added that the partnership with The Curragh Racecourse in Ireland represents another significant milestone in Jebel Ali Racecourse’s international expansion strategy.

“It reflects the racecourse’s commitment to building lasting relationships with leading racing institutions and enhancing the global reach of its brand.”

He said the collaboration also reinforces the UAE’s growing reputation as a hub for equestrian excellence and contributes to further strengthening the country’s position as a key player in the international horse racing industry.
