As an ex-geography teacher I know how big the world is and how confusing it can be. As an Australian I have too often heard the Austrian national anthem being played rather than the Australian one. There are also country borders that move around too often to bother to update atlases.
However the worst example of this is President Trump’s comments about “We had a hundred and eleven missiles shot by the Islamic Republic of Japan.” During a recent trip to Japan I saw many symbols and shrines based on the Shinto and Buddhism beliefs but never a mosque although Google tells me there are some.
It would seem that Trump is confused as to who his friends and foes are but seems pretty happy to blow them up.
There must be many American geography teachers either angry or sad about this level of ignorance of a subject they love teaching.
