Dr Anwar Bin Mohammed Gargash, the Diplomatic Adviser to the President of the UAE, has highlighted that the nation’s security and economic stability are unwavering strategic priorities. He assured that the UAE’s energy exports and trade remain unaffected by regional upheavals or crises.
Speaking at the Hili Forum 2026 in Abu Dhabi, Gargash pointed out that the region is experiencing a pivotal transformation, fundamentally altering the geopolitical and strategic landscape. This shift creates increasingly complex conditions that necessitate exceptional readiness and self-sufficiency.
He remarked that the UAE has made considerable efforts to mitigate this phase, repeatedly emphasising warnings about the long-term implications of such developments. He also referenced past conflicts, like the 2003 Iraq War, illustrating that wars extend beyond the end of combat, leaving lasting political and security challenges.
Dr Gargash stressed that achieving “strategic independence” is now an essential national objective, proving effective in fostering ongoing economic growth, safeguarding national security, and maintaining the independence of national decision-making amid a region laden with uncertainties.
Practical measures to secure trade and supply chains have been announced following recent developments. Gargash outlined an immediate strategy to safeguard maritime supply and trade routes, focusing on expanding ports and boosting their capacity along the country’s east coast. The plan also aims to enhance logistical connectivity by developing pipelines and railway networks to link key ports, while preparing and opening alternative trade routes for the transportation of goods.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Gargash highlighted the risks of complacency towards threats, asserting that the UAE is committed to proactive thinking and quick action to reinforce the resilience of its infrastructure and economy, supported by well-defined plans ready to tackle various contingencies.
