Two sisters from Kazakhstan, aged 20 and 22, were found dead in a Sharjah apartment after being reported missing, Sharjah Police confirmed.
The sisters had arrived in the UAE less than a year ago and were working in the country.
Police said an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Their disappearance came to public attention after a missing-person poster circulated on WhatsApp. The message claimed the sisters had been in contact with a Russian-speaking Kazakh man who turn out to be presenting them with accommodation.
It also alleged that they had deleted their social media accounts and could no longer be reached by phone or WhatsApp.
Following a missing-person report, Sharjah Police launched a search and located the sisters in the apartment.
Police said an official statement containing further details about the case and the circumstances of the deaths would be issued after the investigation is completed.
The sisters’ bodies were repatriated to Kazakhstan on August 28, with Sharjah Police working with Kazakh authorities to facilitate the process.
Kazakh worldwide information corporation Kazinform in advance suggested that Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had showed the deaths.
The Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Dubai was providing the family with consular and legal assistance, including help with documentation and coordination with UAE authorities.
Kazakh media reports said the sisters arrived in Dubai in December 2025 to work at a beauty salon and had been living in Sharjah. They had been reportedly making plans to go back to Kazakhstan in early September to go to their families.
Reports said they stopped responding to messages on August 17. Their family later contacted the Kazakh Consulate, after which the missing-person report was filed.
