Sharjah Misdemeanor Court heard a case in which a man was accused of assaulting an Asian and causing him multiple injuries that prompted him to file a complaint and seek legal redress.
Earlier, the incident was referred to the relevant authorities and subsequently to the court for a verdict.
During the session, the defendant’s lawyer argued that his client was not criminally responsible, stressing that he suffered from a mental illness that deprived him of awareness at the time of the incident and that his health condition prevented him from being held criminally accountable for the actions attributed to him.
The lawyer also requested the court to acquit his client and refer him to a specialized psychiatric committee to determine his mental state and how much he was responsible for the incident at the time it occurred.
Meanwhile, the court decided to postpone hearing the case to complete the procedures and decide on the submitted requests before issuing its verdict.
