Sharjah announces partial closure of Al Taawun Roundabout…

Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority announced the implementation of Al Taawun Tunnel project, the partial closure of Al Taawun Roundabout and the temporary diversion of traffic as part of the ongoing development work at the current site of the roundabout.

The project is aimed at raising the efficiency of the road network and enhancing the flow of traffic between Sharjah and Dubai, it said.

The project is one of the vital projects aimed at developing the road infrastructure in the emirate and improving the level of service on one of the most densely populated traffic axes with a view to accommodating the increasing growth in traffic and easing the movement of vehicles, it added.

The implementation of the works would require a temporary traffic diversion to be made starting from Saturday, June 13, 2026, it said. Accordingly, the movement of vehicles heading to the Emirate of Dubai and Al Nahda Bridge would be redirected to the Corniche Street according to the approved alternative routes, while the movement of vehicles coming from Al Nahda Bridge towards Sharjah would be redirected to the new Al Taawun Street, it added.

According to the traffic plan broadcast by SRTA through its social media platforms, the diversions aim to maintain the flow of traffic through a network of alternative roads surrounding the work area including the new Al Taawun Street and the roads leading to Al Ittihad Street and the Corniche Street, it said.

The necessary directional signs and traffic signals to guide drivers to the alternative routes would be provided, it added.

The temporary traffic diversions are part of the project implementation plan, ensuring the continuation of traffic flow at the highest levels of safety and efficiency during the work period, while minimizing traffic impacts on road users as much as possible, it said.

SRTA called on motorists and road users to abide by the approved traffic diversions and directional signs, to plan their trips in advance and to use the designated alternative routes to preserve their safety, ensure the smooth flow of traffic and reach their destinations safely and without delay.
