The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged as the dominant political force in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), securing a decisive lead in the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections and receiving a strong vote of confidence from the people of AJK in favour of its development-oriented policies and leadership.
The remarkable electoral performance is being viewed within PML-N circles as a clear endorsement of the vision of party chief Nawaz Sharif and the leadership of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
The Prime Minister Shahbaz has expressed his gratitude to the people of AJK for reposing their trust in PML-N and assured them that the federal government will continue to support the region’s development and welfare.
Shahbaz has reiterated that the government will work with the elected leadership to accelerate development projects, improve public services and address the genuine economic and social needs of the people of AJK. The government remains committed to ensuring that the people of Azad Kashmir receive the resources and opportunities necessary for sustainable progress.
The electoral success has also highlighted the exceptional political and organisational efforts of Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Engineer Amir Muqam, who played a central role in strengthening the PML-N’s political presence across AJK.
For nearly two years, Engineer Amir Muqam remained actively engaged with the people and political leadership of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Through sustained political engagement, extensive consultations and continuous interaction with party workers and local communities, he helped build a broad-based campaign for PML-N.
He travelled extensively, mobilised party workers, addressed large public gatherings and brought influential political and public figures into the PML-N fold. His efforts to unite the party organisation and connect the leadership with grassroots workers contributed significantly to the party’s strong electoral performance.
POLITICAL MATURITY
Muqam also demonstrated political maturity during a highly competitive campaign. Despite criticism and allegations from rival political leaders, including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he maintained a measured and dignified response, keeping the focus on development, public service and the political mandate of the people.
The PML-N leadership has appreciated Muqam’s tireless efforts and organisational discipline, describing his sustained campaign as an important factor behind the party’s success.
The victory also reflects the impact of the federal government’s initiatives for AJK, including support for wheat and electricity subsidies, development projects, educational initiatives and infrastructure schemes.
Muqam had repeatedly assured the people that the government would protect relief measures and accelerate development in the region.
The PML-N has pledged that the electoral mandate will be translated into practical measures for the people of AJK. The party leadership said the victory is not merely a political achievement but a responsibility to serve the people with greater dedication, transparency and commitment.
The people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the statement said, have chosen the politics of development, stability and public service, and the PML-N will honour their trust by making the progress and prosperity of AJK a priority.
