Motorist jailed for 3 months over road rage attack in Dubai

Dubai Traffic Prosecution has ordered the imprisonment of a motorist for three months and suspended his driving licence for one year after he was found guilty of reckless driving, endangering the lives of road users, and attempting to assault another driver following a road rage incident.

The case highlights Dubai authorities’ firm stance against dangerous driving behaviour and acts that threaten public safety on the emirate’s roads.

According to Counselor Salah Al Falasi, Senior Advocate General and Head of Dubai Traffic Prosecution, the incident came to light after a report was received from Al Barsha Police Station. Investigations revealed that the victim was attempting to exit the Al Barsha markets area when traffic ahead prevented him from moving forward. At the same time, the accused driver was positioned behind the victim’s vehicle and repeatedly sounded his horn while flashing his headlights in an apparent attempt to force him to move.

As traffic remained blocked by another vehicle in front, the victim was unable to proceed. The accused then approached the victim in an agitated state and demanded to know why he was obstructing the road. The victim explained that another vehicle ahead was preventing traffic from moving and that the delay was beyond his control.

However, the explanation failed to calm the accused. Once traffic began moving and the victim continued on his way, he noticed that the accused had started pursuing him aggressively. Investigations showed that the accused drove recklessly while chasing the victim, repeatedly manoeuvring his vehicle in a dangerous manner before swerving in front of the victim’s car and deliberately blocking the road.

The accused then exited his vehicle and advanced towards the victim in an attempt to assault him. Fearing for his safety, the victim quickly steered away from the scene and managed to escape. During his attempt to flee, his vehicle sustained damage while crossing speed bumps.

Following the arrest of the accused, Dubai Traffic Prosecution immediately launched an investigation and ordered that he be charged with endangering the lives of others and causing damage to another person’s property. The case was subsequently referred to the traffic court, which sentenced the defendant to three months in prison and ordered the suspension of his driving licence for one year.

Al Falasi stressed the importance of self-control while driving and urged motorists to adhere to proper road etiquette, emphasising that law enforcement and traffic authorities are solely responsible for addressing violations and holding offenders accountable.
