Girl riding a bicycle hit by a car while crossing a road,…

Dubai Police have called on motorists to reduce their speed and prioritise pedestrian safety when approaching crossing zones.

Authorities emphasised that drivers must always ensure pedestrians can cross roads safely, particularly in areas designated for pedestrian crossings.

This reminder comes in the wake of a serious accident in Al Yalayis 1, Mira Community, where a vehicle hit a bicycle resulted in a young girl sustaining severe injuries.

Brigadier Jumaa Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, reiterated that safeguarding pedestrians is a key focus for the force. He urged drivers to stay vigilant, especially in areas with high pedestrian activity, including crossing zones, industrial areas, and residential neighbourhoods.

Under Article 69 of the Federal Traffic Law, it is stipulated that drivers who neglect to yield to pedestrians at designated crossings risk a fine of Dhs500 alongside six black points on their driving record.

Dubai Police reported that the collision occurred because the driver failed to prioritise a pedestrian crossing, leading to an accident in which a young girl sustained severe injuries. She was promptly transported to the hospital for urgent medical care.

Brigadier Bin Suwaidan stated that traffic accident specialists were dispatched to the scene to examine the site, collect evidence, and assess the causes of the incident.

Meanwhile, traffic patrol teams secured the area, managed traffic flow, and ensured the swift arrival of emergency and rescue units.

He emphasised the critical importance of exercising utmost caution while driving, especially in residential zones and near pedestrian crossings. He underscored the need to lower speeds, stay focused on the road, and eliminate distractions to safeguard lives and avoid tragic accidents.
