Abu Dhabi Police urged trucks and heavy vehicles drivers to adhere to traffic rules and regulations, comply with safety requirements while driving, and ensure vehicle readiness and technical fitness, contributing to the prevention of traffic accidents and enhancing the safety of drivers and road users.
The Directorate General of Traffic and Patrols stressed the importance of performing periodic maintenance for trucks, ensuring tire safety and replacing them according to the manufacturer’s instructions, besides checking the spare tire to ensure its suitability for use, in addition to regular inspection of brakes, oils, lighting systems, and various essential vehicle parts to avoid sudden breakdowns while driving.
Truck drivers must adhere to the legal speed limits specified on roads and maintain a sufficient safe distance behind vehicles, allowing the driver the necessary time and distance to handle sudden stops, the Directorate added, emphasising the need to avoid sudden swerving or lane changes, especially during heavy traffic, in addition to ensuring the lane is clear before moving into it.
Parking on the road shoulder is banned, except in cases permitted by traffic regulations, the AD police stressed, instructing to head to the nearest safe parking spot when needing to stop, to maintain the safety of the driver and road users, and to avoid accidents resulting from stopping in unsafe places.
AD police also called for not placing any stickers or advertisements on trucks without obtaining the necessary permits from the relevant authorities, while committing to placing the prescribed warning and reflective stickers on heavy vehicles to enhance their visibility to road users, especially during night hours and in low visibility conditions, along with adhering to requirements for transporting hazardous materials and placing approved warning signs according to the nature of the load.
Truck drivers must adhere to instructions and decisions regulating heavy vehicle movement during fog and low visibility, should not drive when decisions banning truck movement are implemented in those conditions, to maintain everyone’s safety, AD police pointed out.
Drivers have to correctly use lighting systems and must not use hazard lights while the vehicle is moving except in cases permitted by regulations, as their incorrect use may cause confusion for road users and difficulty in knowing the vehicle’s direction, Ad police stressed, adding that it is necessary to use signal lights correctly when changing lanes or direction.
