The Dubai International Airport led the list of the world’s largest airports in scheduled seat capacity for international flights in September, offering 4.34 million departing seats and a total of 8.7 million seats in both directions.
According to OAG, a global aviation data provider, London Heathrow Airport followed closely in second place with 4 million seats. Seoul Incheon International Airport was third with a capacity of 3.78 million seats, while Amsterdam Airport ranked fourth with 3.7 million. Istanbul Airport took the fifth spot, offering 3.6 million seats.
In sixth place, Singapore Changi Airport had a capacity of 3.46 million seats. Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport was next with 3.45 million. Frankfurt Airport climbed to eighth with 3.41 million seats, surpassing Hong Kong International Airport, which was ninth with 3.21 million. Madrid Airport completed the top ten list with 2.7 million seats.
Dubai International Airport has maintained its status as the busiest airport globally in terms of seat capacity, aligning with the ongoing recovery of air traffic and expanded airline operations. This growth is driven by increased travel demand, a revival in events, and the onset of the winter season.
In the first half of 2026, Dubai International Airport saw 31.5 million passengers, with numbers steadily rising in the second quarter. Passenger traffic increased from 3.5 million in April to 4.5 million in May, and reached 5 million in June. This positive trend highlights the return of international airlines to Dubai, enhanced air connectivity, and higher aircraft occupancy rates. These factors signal sustained demand in major markets as the year moves into its typically busier second half.
