The Sharjah Misdemeanor Court handed down a sentence of six months in prison to a defendant for the theft of Dhs75,000, followed by an additional six months for attempted theft, with deportation to follow.
These actions were captured on surveillance cameras within a shared residence during two separate incidents.
According to the case files, the victim reported the theft of Dhs75,000 from his room. He noted that the money was intended for his employer’s account deposit. Upon discovering the money missing, he reviewed surveillance footage to identify the culprit.
The recordings revealed that a resident had previously tried to break into another room with the intention of stealing, in a separate occurrence.
This suspicious behavior prompted the victim to turn over the footage and other evidence to authorities. The investigation confirmed the defendant’s involvement in both the theft and the attempted theft activities, all of which were caught on camera.
During the trial, the court addressed the defendant with charges of theft and attempted theft, which he denied.
Upon examining the evidence and details collected during the investigation, particularly noting the defendant’s disappearance from his home after the theft, the Sharjah Misdemeanor Court sentenced him to six months in prison for theft and an additional six months for attempted theft, to be followed by deportation.
