Turkish media have reported that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is personally following the proposed transfer of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah to Beşiktaş, believing the move could significantly boost the global profile of the Turkish league.
Several Turkish media outlets, including the prominent newspaper Zaman, reported on Erdoğan’s interest in the deal.
In an article, Zaman said: “Questions surrounding the future of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah have taken an unexpected turn, with the Liverpool legend potentially continuing his career in the Turkish Süper Lig.”
The newspaper added: “According to recent reports, Beşiktaş has launched serious efforts to sign the Egyptian forward, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has personally become involved in the process.”
According to information published by Turkish newspaper Sözcü, Erdoğan contacted Beşiktaş president Serdal Adalı and requested a detailed report on the progress of the negotiations.
Zaman said Erdoğan’s interest highlights the sporting and national significance of the proposed transfer. It added that indirect government support could help the club meet the substantial financial commitments required to complete the deal.
Turkish journalist Erdoğan Aktaş said that if the move is completed, it would become the biggest transfer in Turkish football history in terms of marketing impact and global image.
Beşiktaş head coach Vincenzo Italiano is also playing an active role in convincing Salah to join the club. According to Fanatik, the Italian coach held a private meeting with the Egyptian forward, outlining the team’s tactical plans for next season and explaining the key role Salah would play in the attack. Italiano reportedly views Salah as the cornerstone of the club’s ambitions in European competitions.
Turkish media believe that signing a global star such as Mohamed Salah would elevate Turkish football to a new level.
The reports also expressed confidence that the transfer could be completed, describing the prospect of Salah choosing an Istanbul club after years of success in the English Premier League as one of the biggest football surprises of the year.
