Benefactor ends last chapter of Egyptian child’s suffering

In a moment that the family of the Egyptian child Anas Mohammed Allam had waited for a long time between fear and hope, relief came from a kind-hearted benefactor who ended the last chapter of his suffering with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The benefactor undertook to complete the remaining amount of the cost of his treatment to give the child a new chance at life and to restore the smile to a family that feared that the disease would steal their son’s dream of survival.

It was a noble humanitarian act that restored hope to the heart of a family exhausted by pain for years and demonstrated that goodness is still present in the souls of compassionate people.

The family of the child expressed their sincere thanks and appreciation to the benefactor who undertook to complete the cost of treatment and gave their child a new opportunity to face the disease.

“From the land of giving, the land of Zayed the Good, I extend my deepest thanks and gratitude to the leadership and government of the UAE as well as to the UAE people and the residents of this good land for their support of my son,” the child’s father told Al Khaleej.

“This gesture helped my wife and me to overcome the ordeal we have been living through for years though this generosity is not unusual for the UAE people,” he added.

Meanwhile, the child’s mother affirmed that her son was no longer facing the disease alone but was surrounded by everyone’s prayers and wishes for recovery, adding that he suffered from a rare disease that gradually weakened the body’s muscles and its effect might affect his heart muscle and the respiratory system, which could pose a great danger to his life.

She noted that the symptoms began with severe weakness in movement and frequent falls while walking, before doctors confirmed that he had Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rare genetic disease resulting from a defect in the protein dystrophin, which is responsible for maintaining muscle integrity, leading to its gradual deterioration and potentially causing serious complications to the heart and respiratory system.

On May 9, Al Khaleej published the story of the child Anas under the title ‘I just want to live’ and the appeal quickly turned into a moving humanitarian response, after a benefactor covered the remaining amount of treatment in a scene that embodied the highest meanings of mercy and giving.

The family expressed special thanks to Al Khaleej after the publication of the child’s story helped convey his voice to compassionate hearts, so that today a new journey titled ‘Hope and Life’ would begin for him.
