Abu Dhabi Police called on motorists to take caution and maintain full focus while driving in the vicinity of schools and not to be distracted from the road in order to preserve the safety of students and pedestrians, especially during morning peak hours and dismissal times.
School zones experience heavy traffic and continuous student traffic, which requires drivers to reduce speeds, abide by pedestrian crossings and stop completely at school bus stop signals, they said, stressing that being distracted by using a phone or any other distractions while driving would endanger the lives of others.
Traffic safety is a shared responsibility and drivers’ abidance by correct behaviours contributes to providing a safe environment for students, they added, calling on parents and road users to co-operate with the competent authorities and promote a culture of safe driving.
They affirmed that their awareness and monitoring efforts would continue as part of their strategic priorities in promoting smart road safety and community well-being.
