Supreme Judiciary Council launches Smart Execution Court Building project

The Supreme Judiciary Council (SJC) has unveiled the Smart Building Project for the Execution Court, representing a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing judicial digital transformation strategy.The initiative reflects the Council’s commitment to enhancing institutional performance, modernising court infrastructure, and adopting the latest technological practices to improve the quality and efficiency of judicial services.The project was launched by the SJC Information Systems Department and is part of broader efforts to strengthen digital governance within judicial facilities. The smart building integrates advanced technological solutions and intelligent operational systems designed to create a more secure, efficient, and user-friendly judicial environment.The Smart Execution Court Building incorporates a fully integrated ecosystem of modern technologies and intelligent operational systems. The facility includes advanced access control solutions based on facial recognition technology, high-precision surveillance and monitoring systems, and comprehensive cybersecurity and data protection mechanisms designed to safeguard sensitive judicial information.The building also features smart energy management systems that help reduce energy consumption and support sustainability objectives, alongside automated lighting and climate control systems that adapt dynamically to occupancy levels and operational requirements.In addition, the project includes intelligent parking management systems that provide safe, seamless experiences for visitors, as well as a comprehensive digital infrastructure that supports electronic judicial services and interactive platforms to simplify procedures and enhance the user experience for litigants and visitors. The building further integrates a sophisticated customer satisfaction and feedback system based on biometric analytics and facial recognition technologies.The Smart Execution Court Building represents a qualitative transformation in the judicial work environment and serves as a practical model for integrating advanced digital technologies into the public service operations. Further, the project aligns with the SJC's vision to deliver more advanced, efficient, and responsive judicial services that meet societal expectations and keep pace with the demands of the digital era.In the meantime, the project facility has a gross floor area of 14,000 square meters and consists of five floors and two basement levels. The facility has a total parking capacity of 171 spaces.The Smart Execution Court Building project is considered part of Qatar’s continued investment in intelligent infrastructure, digital governance, and judicial innovation. By integrating artificial intelligence, smart monitoring systems, automated building management, and digital judicial services, the initiative would introduce a new benchmark for modern judicial facilities in the region.  Related Story

Italian ‌Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Libyan counterpart ‌Abdulhamid Dbeibah ⁠discussed ‌yesterday strengthening energy co-operation ‌at a time when Italy is looking to ⁠diversify energy supplies due to the turmoil in the Gulf.Italy, highly dependent on imported energy, is particularly exposed to the surge in global fuel prices triggered by the US-Israeli war on Iran."(The leaders) discussed ways to further strengthen ​the already solid bilateral co-operation, with particular reference to economic relations and investment in the energy sector," Meloni's office ‌said after the talks ⁠in Rome."The ​two leaders then reaffirmed their shared ​commitment to managing migration."Libya is Rome's biggest supplier of crude oil, accounting for nearly a fifth of Rome's total crude oil imports. However, Libya’s gas exports to Italy dropped to around 1bn cubic metres in 2025, from 1.4 bcm in 2024.The drop was largely the result of supply-side constraints in Libya — ‌including rising domestic ‌demand, repeated disruptions to ⁠infrastructure and political instability — which kept the Greenstream pipeline ⁠to Italy ⁠running well below capacity.Members of Italy's influential parliamentary security committee visited Libya in late April, and discussed with Dbeibah the importance of "increased investment to allow a significant rise in Libyan gas production and, consequently, exports ​to Italy", according to a statement.Italian state-controlled Eni has been present in Libya since 1959 and is the country's leading international operator, with an equity production of approximately 162,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2025 and three development projects currently in execution, two of which will start ‌up in 2026.

WHO warns of more hantavirus cases in ‘limited’ outbreak

The World Health Organisation said yesterday that more hantavirus cases could emerge after the disease killed three passengers from a cruise ship but it expected the outbreak to be limited if precautions were taken.Another sick passenger from the MV Hondius landed in Europe earlier in the day, as the vessel headed to the Spanish Canary Islands and health officials scrambled to map the outbreak of the potentially deadly human-to-human strain.The fate of the Hondius sparked international alarm after three people travelling on it died, though health officials have played down fears of a wider global outbreak from the rat-borne virus, which is less contagious than Covid-19.WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told journalists in Geneva that five confirmed and three suspected cases had been reported overall, including the three deaths."Given the incubation period of the Andes virus, which can be up to six weeks, it's possible that more cases may be reported," he said, referring to the rare strain detected aboard the Hondius, which can be transmitted between humans.The Leiden University Medical Centre in the Netherlands later announced another patient had tested positive.But the WHO's emergency alert and response director Abdi Rahman Mahamud insisted: "We believe this will be a limited outbreak if the public health measures are implemented and solidarity shown across all countries."People thought to have contracted the virus are being treated or isolating in Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and South Africa.Hantavirus is a rare respiratory disease that is usually spread from infected rodents and can cause respiratory and cardiac distress as well as haemorrhagic fevers. There are no vaccines and no known cure for it.A passenger is thought to have contracted the virus before boarding the ship in Argentina and eventually infected others on board as it sailed across the Atlantic.Three evacuees were whisked away from the ship on Wednesday when it anchored off Cape Verde and a fourth landed yesterday in Amsterdam, said the vessel's operator, Netherlands-based Oceanwide Expeditions."No symptomatic individuals are present on board" the ship at the moment, as it sails toward the Spanish island of Tenerife, it said in a statement.The ship is scheduled to arrive there on Sunday and those on board evacuated.The ship's Dutch operator Oceanwide Expeditions said there were 149 people on the ship, including 88 passengers.Two people who returned to the UK from the ship have been advised to self-isolate, the UK Health Security Agency said, adding they were asymptomatic and insisting the risk to the public was "very low".Officials in Argentina said they planned to test rodents in the coastal city of Ushuaia, from where the ship had set sail on April 1.

The United States and Iran ‌are edging toward a temporary agreement to halt their war, sources and officials said yesterday, with Tehran reviewing a proposal that would ​stop the fighting but leave the most contentious issues ‌unresolved.Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson said Tehran had not yet reached a conclusion on the emerging plan, which according to the sources centres on ‌a short-term memorandum rather than ⁠a comprehensive peace deal, underscoring deep divisions between the ‌two sides. Hopes that even a partial deal could lead to the ‌reopening of the Strait of Hormuz have already moved markets, with oil prices sliding again on bets that supply disruptions could ease and global stocks largely holding onto ⁠record highs.Tehran and Washington have scaled back ambitions for a sweeping settlement as differences persist, particularly over Iran's nuclear programme — including the fate of its highly enriched uranium stockpiles and how long Tehran would halt nuclear work.Instead, they are working toward a temporary arrangement set out in a one-page memo aimed at preventing a return to conflict and stabilising shipping through the strait, the sources and officials said."Our priority is that they announce a permanent end to war and the rest of the issues could be thrashed out once they get back to direct talks," a senior Pakistani official involved in mediation between the two sides told Reuters.The proposed framework would unfold in three stages: formally ending the war, resolving the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and launching a 30-day window for negotiations ​on a broader agreement, according to the sources and officials.Tehran said Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held a phone call yesterday with Ishaq Dar, his counterpart in Pakistan, which has taken a leading role in mediation efforts."We remain optimistic," Pakistan's foreign ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi told a briefing in Islamabad when asked how quickly a deal could come."A simple answer would ‌be that we expect an agreement sooner rather than later."US President Donald Trump — ​who has repeatedly played up the prospect of a breakthrough since the war began on February 28 with US-Israeli strikes on Iran — ​has also struck an optimistic tone."They want to make a deal... it's very possible," he told reporters at the White House on Wednesday, adding later that "it'll be over quickly".The proposal would formally end the conflict in which full-scale warfare was paused by a ceasefire announced on April 7. But it leaves unresolved key US demands that Iran suspend its nuclear work and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the sources said.In a sign of the US keeping up pressure, it imposed sanctions yesterday on Iraq's deputy oil minister and three militia leaders over what it said was their support for Iran. Israel said yesterday it had killed a Hezbollah commander in an airstrike on Beirut a day earlier, the first Israeli attack on the Lebanese capital since a ceasefire there was agreed last month.Iranian officials signalled scepticism over the US proposal to end the ‌wider war. A foreign ministry spokesperson said Tehran would respond in ‌due course, while lawmaker Ebrahim Rezaei described the proposal as "more of ⁠an American wish list than a reality".Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf appeared to mock reports that indicated the two sides were close, writing on social media that "Operation Trust ⁠Me Bro failed" and portraying the talks as US spin after its ⁠failure to reopen the strait.  Related Story
