Man faces trial for assaulting hotel receptionist in Sharjah

Sharjah Misdemeanor Court heard a case in which an Asian receptionist working in a hotel apartment was assaulted due to his insistence on applying the regulations.

The victim refused to open a room to people who did not have a direct relationship with the guest in order to preserve privacy and comply with the firm’s policies.

The victim was at his post in the reception office when a number of people came to inquire about a guest.

When he informed them that the guest was not present at that time, they asked him to go up to the room and open it for them.

He, however, categorically refused their request, stating that this was against work instructions.

According to the investigations conducted, the receptionist stood his ground despite their insistence, stressing his commitment to performing his duties honestly and not violating the privacy of the residents.

This angered one of the visitors and as conversation between the two parties became difficult, one of them beat the receptionist inside the workplace and this necessitated legal action to be taken.

The case was referred to Sharjah Misdemeanor Court, which summoned the accused, an Arab, via video-conferencing technique and confronted him with the charge against him, whereupon he admitted to having committed the act.

After listening to the defendant’s statements and reviewing the case proceedings, the court decided to postpone the hearing to a later session to allow the defendant to attend and complete the procedures.
