As part of the “Be Cautious” campaign, Abu Dhabi Police have warned against the dangers of downloading remote-control software on smart devices, including phones and computers, stressing that such tools are increasingly exploited by fraudsters to steal money and sensitive information.
The police explained that scammers often deceive victims by persuading them to download software under the pretext of offering assistance or resolving technical issues. Once installed, the fraudsters can gain full control of the device and access confidential data.
They urged the public not to respond to suspicious calls requesting the download of software or the sharing of personal information, emphasising that bank employees never ask for account details, credit card numbers, passwords, PINs, or One-Time Passwords (OTPs).
Authorities also called for heightened vigilance, advising people not to share sensitive information and to download applications only from official and trusted sources.
In cases of suspected fraud, the public is urged to report incidents immediately by contacting “Aman” on 8002626, sending a text message to 2828, or visiting the nearest police station.
