The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate has called on delivery motorcycle riders to avoid operating during adverse weather conditions. This advisory aligns with the Directorate’s ongoing efforts to enhance awareness and issue timely warnings, prioritizing the safety of delivery riders under the “Smart Road Safety” initiative.
Brigadier Mahmoud Yousef Al Baloushi, Director of the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate, highlighted the risks of riding motorcycles during unfavorable weather, especially during rainfall. He explained that motorcycles are primarily designed for dry roads, making them hazardous to use in wet conditions. Rain can cause skidding and significantly increase stopping distances, raising the likelihood of accidents.
He highlighted Abu Dhabi Police’s dedication to improving the safety of this particular group of road users by organizing regular awareness workshops aimed at enhancing their understanding of traffic rules. These workshops are offered in multiple languages, including Arabic, English, and Urdu, as part of the Directorate’s strategy to promote traffic safety education.
He also called on motorcyclists, especially those involved in delivery services, to exercise caution once adverse weather conditions improve. He emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic laws to prevent severe injuries and fatalities. Riders were encouraged to stay within their lanes, avoid using mobile phones while driving, wear proper protective gear, ensure their motorcycle lights are functional and well-maintained, avoid entering restricted areas, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. These measures are critical for safeguarding both their own safety and that of other road users.
