Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the President of the UAE, said on Tuesday that the UAE might join international efforts led by the United States to ensure the safety and security of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a speech delivered during an online event organised by the American Council on Foreign Relations, Gargash clarified that the United Arab Emirates is not currently holding any talks with Iran.
Gargash’s statements come amid increasing concerns about the security of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, where commercial traffic has almost completely halted as the US-Israeli war on Iran enters its third week.
It is worth nothing that about 20% of the world’s oil supplies pass through the strait, along with similar quantities of liquefied natural gas and fertiliser products, and its closure has resulted in a significant rise in the prices of many commodities.
