The US military has completed a wave of strikes against Iranian military targets, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said.
CENTCOM said US forces struck targets belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including air defence sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine-laying capabilities and communications sites.
The strikes followed recent attempted attacks by the IRGC against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US service members, CENTCOM said.
More than 50,000 US service members are currently operating across the Middle East and remain prepared to carry out further operations, the command said.
The latest strikes mark a renewed escalation in hostilities between the United States and Iran after a period of relative calm.
