Six killed after cargo of steel coils falls on them from …

Six women from one family were killed and 18 others injured in a tragic traffic accident in the Sultanate of Oman, where a truck loaded with steel coils overturned on a busy road. Among the injured, eight individuals sustained serious injuries after the truck veered off its path.

The deceased were six women from Dr. Hamad Al Hamami’s family, residing in the Wilayat of Rustaq. The accident led to the loss of his wife, sisters, niece, and aunt, who have been laid to rest.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Bin Salam Al Hashami, Director of Public Relations and Security Media at the Royal Oman Police, reported that the incident happened shortly before 8:00 pm on Friday. The vehicle involved was a tractor-trailer transporting steel coils on Sultan Thuwaini Bin Said Road in the direction of Muscat.

He mentioned that the accident’s timing coincided with another incident nearby, creating a traffic jam that caught the truck driver off guard. This forced the driver into the opposite lane, where metal debris ended up between the median barriers.

He also noted that 15 vehicles suffered damage due to the accident.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, through its Transport Safety Office, has initiated an investigation into the traffic collision on Sultan Thuwaini Bin Said Road in the Wadi Bani Rawaha area of the Wilayat of Samail. The investigation aims to uncover the causes and contributing factors of the accident.
