The Sharjah City Municipality has introduced a residential permit system in the Al Fisht, Sharqan, and Al Raffa areas. The initiative is designed to allocate parking spaces exclusively for local residents and ensure proper regulation to prevent misuse.
As part of this effort, the municipality carried out a thorough inspection campaign to identify improper practices in these neighbourhoods, particularly focusing on the issue of vehicles parked outside residential homes to bypass public parking fees. Vehicle owners were cautioned and informed about the need to avoid parking in these areas unless they are residents, to prevent legal and administrative repercussions.
In this regard, Hamid Al Qaed, Director of the Public Parking Department, affirmed that the municipality actively monitors feedback and reports from residents regarding the organisation of their designated parking spaces. A team of inspectors has been established to oversee observations and violations, ensuring compliance by alerting non-compliant vehicles and informing their owners of the need to follow the established regulations. The use of residential parking is strictly reserved for area residents only.
He stressed that these measures are designed to lessen the inconvenience for residents and reduce any negative effects on the visual appeal of residential areas. This demonstrates the municipality’s dedication to enhancing residents’ comfort by offering designated parking spaces around the clock and improving traffic flow within these neighbourhoods.
He further highlighted that random parking by non-residents in residential zones harms the urban aesthetics and causes issues for locals. As a result, administrative and legal actions were necessary to address these behaviours and associated negative practices. He mentioned that the initiative is ongoing and will soon cover additional residential areas.
The Director of the Public Parking Department announced that residents of Al-Fisht, Sharqan, and Al-Rifa’a can now register their vehicles in the residential permit system via the municipality’s website. This system enables inspectors to recognise and confirm vehicles during patrols and inspections.
Additionally, the municipality has introduced a service for registering the vehicles of visitors to these areas. Homeowners can register their guests’ vehicles by calling 993 and providing the necessary details. This permits visitors to utilise residential parking spaces in line with the established guidelines.
