Sharjah Misdemeanor Court convicted two men of selling medicines and practising pharmacy without a licence and fined them Dhs10,000.
It also convicted a third man of practising a financial activity without a licence and fined him Dhs5,000. In addition, the court ordered that the seized medicines and funds in question be confiscated.
Earlier, the police detected an account on social media promoting the sale of Mounjaro injections intended for the treatment of diabetes and weight loss through electronic advertisements although these were only dispensed with a medical prescription. This prompted the competent authorities to initiate investigations and track the electronic account.
The investigations resulted in the arrest of the first and second defendants after it was proven that they were involved in selling medicines without obtaining the necessary licences.
A third defendant who was responsible for making financial transfers related to the activity in question without obtaining the necessary legal licence to practice this activity was also arrested.
During the trial sessions, the court confronted the first and second defendants with the charges of selling medicines and practicing pharmacy without a licence, while it confronted the third defendant with the charge of engaging in financial activity without a licence.
While the three defendants denied the charges against them, the court found the first and second defendants guilty and fined them Dhs10,000. It also found the third defendant guilty and fined him Dhs5,000 and ordered the seized medicines and money related to the illegal activity to be confiscated.
