Sharjah Misdemeanour Court heard a case in which a manager at an institution was charged with refusing to hand over an employee’s official documents.
The details of the case indicated that a worker filed a report with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), complaining that the manager of the institution where he worked asked for his passport to complete procedures related to residency renewal.
He further explained that he agreed that he would return the passport immediately upon completion of the necessary procedures.
The complainant added that the manager refused to return the passport and his official documents, despite his repeated requests, which prompted him to resort to the competent authorities and file a complaint to take legal action against him.
During the interrogations, the competent authorities listened to the manager’s statements regarding the withholding of official documents belonging to the worker illegally, and he denied it, stressing that he did not refuse to hand over the passport, explaining that the passport was kept in the possession of the institution due to the incomplete residency renewal procedures and not for the purpose of detaining it.
After reviewing the case files and hearing the statements of both parties, Sharjah Misdemeanour Court decided adjourned the case to complete the interrogations and summon witnesses to hear their testimonies.
