His Highness President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, on the sidelines of his participation in the G7 Summit, which is being hosted by France in Évian from June 15 to 17.
In a post on X, Ursula von der Leyen said: “We had a good meeting. With the agreement between Washington and Tehran now reached, it is time for Iran to end its unjustified attacks against its neighbours.”
She added: “This crisis has further underscored the need to deepen the partnership between Europe and the Gulf. There are many opportunities ahead for EU-UAE relations, from trade to security cooperation. Let us take this forward at the upcoming EU summit.”
During the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed with António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen various aspects of cooperation between the UAE, the European Union and its member states, and ways to strengthen ties in a manner that serves the mutual interests of all parties.
The discussions also covered ongoing negotiations on a strategic partnership agreement between the UAE and the EU and its importance in deepening bilateral relations. The agreement is expected to provide a comprehensive institutional framework for cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
The UAE President and EU officials explored opportunities to enhance collaboration in energy, advanced technology, artificial intelligence and healthcare to support sustainable development and shared prosperity.
Sheikh Mohamed, António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening UAE-EU relations, particularly in development-focused sectors. They also highlighted negotiations on a free trade agreement between the UAE and the EU, which, once completed, is expected to mark a significant milestone in economic and trade relations between the two sides.
The meeting further reviewed developments in the Middle East and included an exchange of views on regional issues.
