The mutual visa exemption agreement between the UAE and Papua New Guinea has officially put into force, a step which enhances the freedom of movement for citizens between the two countries and supports the advanced global standing of the Emirati passport.
According to the latest update on the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) website regarding visa requirements between the two countries, the agreement allows holders of Emirati and Papuan passports to travel without a prior visa and stay for up to 90 days (extendable to 180 days) for tourism, medical treatment, study, and work purposes, provided that the passport is valid for at least six months.
The agreement came into effect 30 days after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in the presence of Noura Al Kaabi, UAE Minister of State, and James Marape, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, during the World Government Summit in Dubai.
This achievement reflects the growing level of diplomatic cooperation between the two countries and confirms the success of joint efforts aimed at facilitating travel and strengthening bilateral relations, creating bilateral opportunities, which enhances the UAE’s position as a global hub for talent, investments, and capital.
Under the agreement, the UAE and Papua New Guinea added a new point to their scores on the mobility index. The Emirati passport maintains its lead in the individual passport strength ranking with 182 points, while the Papua New Guinea passport ranks 117th globally with 87 points, compared to 71 points in 2021.
