The Fujairah Chess and Culture Club successfully organized the First Fujairah International Blitz Chess Problem Solving Championship, attracting 130 players from 13 countries, alongside leading chess players and clubs from across the UAE.

The event represents a significant addition to Fujairah’s growing portfolio of international chess activities and further reinforces the emirate’s position on the global chess stage.

The championship was officially inaugurated by Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Barkat, First Vice President of the World Federation for Chess Composition (WFCC), and Dr. Jassim Haikal Al Blooshi, Board Member of Fujairah Chess and Culture Club, in the presence of parents, chess enthusiasts, media representatives, and journalists. Attendees commended the high organizational standards of the event and emphasized the importance of chess-solving competitions in developing critical thinking, concentration, and analytical skills.

The tournament was conducted under the supervision of International Arbiter and Secretary of the World Federation for Chess Composition (WFCC), Mohammad Abdulghani Alhallak, who served as the Chief Arbiter of the Championship, ensuring the highest standards of professionalism, fairness, and accuracy throughout the competition.

The event featured a dynamic and highly competitive format consisting of 16 chess problems divided into two stages. The first stage included eight “Mate in 1” problems, with participants allocated 120 seconds per problem. The second stage comprised eight “Mate in 2” problems, with 180 seconds allowed for each problem, in addition to 30 extra seconds for recording solutions.

Participants demonstrated exceptional levels of tactical awareness, analytical speed, and precision under time pressure. Competitors were challenged to identify the decisive moves leading to checkmate within the allotted time, showcasing remarkable problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking.

At the conclusion of the championship, all correct solutions were presented and reviewed with the participants, generating valuable technical discussions and exchanges of ideas between players and arbiters. This educational component added significant value to the event, transforming it into a platform that combines competitive excellence with intellectual and instructional development.

The official results of the championship will be published tomorrow following a comprehensive review and verification process conducted by the Chief Arbiter. The final standings will be available on the internationally recognized chess platform Chess Results.

This championship forms part of the Fujairah Chess and Culture Club’s ongoing commitment to promoting chess culture, advancing all aspects of the game—including chess problem solving—and attracting talented players from both within the UAE and abroad. Through initiatives such as this, the club continues to strengthen Fujairah’s presence in the Arab and international chess communities while fostering creativity, strategic thinking, and excellence among chess enthusiasts.
