The Cybercrime Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigations of Dubai Police warned against following circulating videos on social media that encourage drinking large quantities of energy drinks, especially for children, due to the serious health risks they may cause.
Dubai Police affirmed that some digital content seeks to attract views and interaction without considering the dangerous health and behavioural consequences, calling on parents to monitor the content their children follow and to enhance their awareness not to blindly imitate everything published on social media.
Dubai Police also indicated that excessive consumption of energy drinks may result in serious complications including “heart rhythm disorders,” “convulsions and loss of consciousness,” in addition to “the possibility of sudden cardiac arrest.”
The police also clarified that there are health harms that may affect children, including poisoning, stomach disorders, increased anxiety, tension and nervousness, effects on concentration, memory and sleep, and accelerated heart rate and high blood pressure.
Dubai Police urged the public to obtain health information from reliable sources and to report any digital content that encourages dangerous behaviours or threatens the safety of community members, calling for the necessity of reporting violations and cybercrimes through the Dubai Police smart application, or through the “Ecrime” platform for receiving cybercrime reports, or by calling 901.
It is worth noting that Dubai Police launched an electronic awareness platform aimed at spreading awareness of cybercrimes, which includes valuable content in both Arabic and English, covering everything related to aspects of preventing the risks of cybercrimes, and identifying and avoiding fraud methods.
The platform targets all society categories, including children and parents, community members, business owners, employees, and all users of social media and the internet, and can be accessed via the following link: https://ecrimehub.gov.ae/ar.
