The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) announced the approval of “MIEBO” treatment from Bausch+Lomb, which contains the active ingredient Perfluorohexyloctane, and is designated for treating the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease, a step that enhances patients’ access in the UAE to the latest pharmaceutical innovations in eye health.

“MIEBO” is the first medicinal eye drop that directly targets tear evaporation, which is one of the main causes of dry eye disease, as it helps improve the stability of the tear film and alleviate its associated symptoms.

With this approval, the UAE has become the third country globally to approve the use of the medication, reflecting its approach to accelerating the availability of modern therapeutic technologies and enhancing the efficiency of the pharmaceutical system according to the highest international standards.

The approval of the treatment was based on the positive results of two clinical studies named “GOBI” and “MOJAVE”, which included more than 1,200 patients, where the results showed a statistically significant improvement in the signs and symptoms of this disease during the treatment period.

It is worth noting that Dry eye disease is a common health condition affecting millions of people worldwide, and its symptoms can impact visual comfort and quality of life, which underscores the importance of developing and providing innovative treatment options that target the main causes of the condition and contribute to improving healthcare outcomes.
