Two new gates added to Darb, start operations from Monday

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), affiliated with the Department of Municipalities and Transport, announced the addition of two new gates to the “Darb” toll system in Abu Dhabi, which will be operational from Monday, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

ITC indicated that the goal was to enhance traffic flow on main roads, improve the efficiency of road network usage, and reduce congestion, especially during peak hours.

The two gates will be allegedly implemented and operated in cooperation with Q-Mobility.

The two gates are located on Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Street, in the Ghantoot area, and on Wahat Al Karama Street at the entrance and exit of Sheikh Zayed Street, ITC reported.

A fee of Dhs4 will be applied for each crossing through the gate, with continued exemption for one vehicle for the following categories: senior citizens, people of determination, low-income individuals, and retired citizens, according to the approved toll system in the Emirate, ITC clarified. It affirmed that the selection of the two gate locations was based on specialised traffic studies which considered traffic density, mobility patterns, and the availability of alternative routes in their vicinity, as follows:

Al Qurm Toll Gate: Located on Wahat Al Karama Street at the entrance and exit of Sheikh Zayed Street, its location allows drivers to use Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street or Arabian Gulf Street as alternative routes.

Ghantoot Toll Gate: Located on Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Street in the Ghantoot area, road users can choose Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Street as an alternative route.

The addition of these two gates is part of efforts to develop the road network in the emirate to keep pace with urban expansion and increasing traffic, the ITC pointed out, adding that it will also continue to monitor the impact of the new gates through periodic reviews to measure their results and analyse usage patterns, ensuring the effective implementation of the system according to approved traffic requirements.
