admin Dubai Police have warned pedestrians about the serious risks of crossing roads from non-designated areas, stressing that such behaviour remains one of the leading causes of run-over accidents.
Brigadier Jumaa Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, explained that authorities across the emirate have provided safe and well-equipped pedestrian bridges and crossings on major roads. However, some individuals continue to cross from unsafe locations, placing themselves in significant danger, particularly given high vehicle speeds and the difficulty for drivers to stop suddenly.
RECENT INCIDENT ON AL KHAWANEEJ STREET
The warning follows a recent incident on Al Khawaneej Street, where a pedestrian sustained minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross from a non-designated area. Emergency teams responded promptly and provided medical assistance at the scene.
Brigadier Bin Suwaidan urged pedestrians to follow proper road-crossing rules and ensure that roads are clear before crossing. He noted that Article 89 of the Federal Traffic Law imposes a fine of Dhs400 on pedestrians who fail to comply with traffic signals or cross from non-designated areas, as such actions endanger both themselves and other road users.
He also called on pedestrians to use designated crossings and adhere to traffic signals at intersections, while urging drivers to remain vigilant, particularly on busy roads. Dubai Police continue to implement awareness campaigns targeting both pedestrians and motorists to promote traffic safety and reduce risky behaviours that may lead to serious accidents.
