The Dubai Police have warned about the risks associated with halting on the road due to vehicle breakdowns, running out of fuel, or experiencing flat tires. Drivers are urged to ensure their vehicles are in optimal condition before heading out to avoid such scenarios. As a deterrent, a fine of Dhs1,000 and six black points will be imposed for stopping in the middle of the road, in addition to a Dhs500 penalty under Article (98) for obstructing traffic.

Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, highlighted that stopping in the middle of the road poses grave dangers, frequently leading to severe accidents, fatalities, and injuries. He underscored the necessity of contacting the police immediately if a vehicle becomes immobilized and cannot be moved. This allows authorities to secure the disabled vehicle using patrol support and follow established procedures to safeguard passengers and other motorists.

Brigadier Juma Bin Suwaidan emphasised the importance of taking precautionary steps to prevent further accidents in cases of vehicle breakdowns or traffic collisions where the driver is unable to move the vehicle off the road. These steps include activating hazard lights, prioritizing the safety of all passengers, placing a warning triangle at a safe distance behind the vehicle to alert oncoming traffic (if feasible), vacating the vehicle completely, moving to a safe area away from traffic, and promptly contacting the police.

These remarks came in light of a recent three-vehicle crash on Al Khail Road toward Abu Dhabi. The accident occurred when a driver abruptly stopped in the middle of the road to recover a fallen license plate. This action led to a second driver, who was inattentive and failed to react in time, colliding with the stopped vehicle. As a result, the first vehicle was pushed into another two vehicles.

The accident left the pedestrian with severe injuries, while two others suffered moderate injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital for medical care.

Specialists from the Traffic Accident Investigation Department arrived at the scene to assess the area and gather evidence. Meanwhile, traffic patrols maintained road safety, directed traffic, and ensured the swift arrival of rescue teams to perform their responsibilities and implement required procedures.
