Tehran says intelligence chief killed by US and Israel

The head of the intelligence organisation of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was killed on Monday in a “terrorist attack by the American-Zionist (Israeli) enemy”, Iranian media said, citing a statement by the Guards.

Majid Khademi, who becomes the latest key figure killed in US-Israeli air strikes, took over in 2025 after Israeli air strikes killed his predecessor.

Iran had warned the US of a “much more devastating” retaliation after Donald Trump threatened to target civilian infrastructure unless Tehran reopens the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump told Iran to “open the F***in’ Strait” or face “living in hell” in an extraordinary swear-laden rant on Sunday, with a deadline to ‘make a deal or open the strait’ closing in fast.

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran,” the president wrote. “There will be nothing like it.”

Trump followed that message with a cryptic post that appeared to set a deadline for his threats, reading simply: “Tuesday, 8pm Eastern Time!”
